Sexual Purity Course Lesson 2
Let's continue with the gospel. The last lesson concentrated on the truth that the death of Jesus paid for our sins. Jesus died as a substitute, in our place, and secured our forgiveness. He took the punishment that we deserve for our sins. He took our sins to Himself and then absorbed God's wrath on the cross. More than that, He has also given us His own righteousness. Now we are accepted and loved by God because of Jesus perfect obedience and death for us. The gospel has radically changed our relationship with God. Today we want to understand how the gospel has changed our relationship to sin. In simple terms, we need to understand that the cross did more than pay the penalty for our sins; it also broke the power of sin over our lives.
Scripture: Read Matthew 1:21; Romans 6:1-14; Titus 2:11-14; and 1 John 1:5-10.
Study:
1. How has the gospel changed your relationship to sin? Explain your relationship to sin before and after conversion.
2. Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Explain Paul's answer (Romans 6:1-14) in your own words.
3. We often think of salvation as being saved from something and this is right. We have been saved from death and hell. Here we learn that we are saved for something as well (Titus 2:11-14). What have we been saved for?
Application:
1. Commit Matthew 1:21 to memory. Write it down and meditate upon it when you get a few moments throughout the week.
2. Answer this question: What can the sin of sexual immorality make me do now that Jesus has saved me from it?
